At Education Comes First (ECF), we know that reading is the key to unlocking a child’s potential. That’s why all our sites dedicate 40-60 minutes a week to out-of-school time reading, giving members the opportunity to build their literacy skills in fun and engaging ways.
ECF members participate in exciting, themed reading challenges throughout the year, aligning with holidays, special events, and important cultural celebrations. Whether it’s a Spooky Stories Challenge in October, a Read Across America Week celebration in March, or a Summer Adventure Reading Quest, our goal is to make reading a joyful experience.
In addition to our challenges, we offer creative ways for members to explore the world of books:
Small groups read and discuss stories together, helping members build comprehension and critical thinking skills.
Kids bring books to life by acting out scenes, making reading an interactive experience.
Hands-on activities encourage creativity while reinforcing literacy skills.
Listening to books expands vocabulary and improves fluency, especially for emerging readers.
Older members mentor younger readers, fostering confidence and leadership skills.
Word puzzles, scavenger hunts, and interactive quizzes make reading exciting and rewarding.
At ECF, we believe that reading should be accessible, enjoyable, and empowering for every child. By combining structured reading time with engaging activities, we help members develop strong literacy skills, expand their imaginations, and discover the joy of books.
Through weekly reading time, themed challenges, and creative literacy activities, we’re fostering a love for books that will last a lifetime.
